HW: Pg. 40-59 Summary 11-04-10

Laertes is about to go away for awhile. He told his sister to write to him often. He also talks about how she shouldn't be talking the relationships and feeling that she has for Hamlet too seriously because it might not be real. He also warned her about how Hamlet might love her now, but as he continues to grow and have more responsibilities. His feelings toward her might change and so he doesn't want her to be seduce by Hamlet way of talking. Polonius, their father, came in and tell Laetus to hurry it up because the carriage was waiting outside for him. Polonius ask what Ophelia's brother had said to her and after hearing what she said, he told her that she had been spending a lot of time lately for Hamlet and he doesn't want her to spend a lot of time, but just a little bit less of a time. He also thinks that if she took this relationship seriously and made a mistake then it would be a disgrace and he would become a laughing stock for the whole town and he doesn't want to be one. And so they left. At 12 o'clock, Hamlet went to the platform to see the ghost with Horatio, Marcellus, and Barnardo. After they talk a little bit, the ghost appears and Hamlet tried to speak to it. But it was telling Hamlet to follow it so that they can talk and so Horatio, Marcellus, and Barnardo felt like he shouldn't go. But Hamlet was stubborn and so he went anyway. The three guards of Hamlet went anyway because they are afraid something might happen to him.

11-03-10 2nd Soliloquy HW

Hamlet is very surprise to find out from Horatio that he had seen his dead father's ghost when Horatio was on guard duty with Marcellus and Barnardo. He told them that he would meet them at "on the platform where...[they]... stand guard." After they left, Hamlet thinks to himself and he "...suspects some foul play" in the death of his father. He is also a very impatient guy because "...[he] wish the night were here already" so that he can see for himself if the ghost of his dead father is true. And reveal the "bad deeds.... no matter how people try to hide them". He is basic saying that he wants to find out the truth of what happen to his father and to take some sort of revenge on the person that did this to him.

11-01-2011 Soliloquy HW

1. Hamlet's speech on pg. 26-29 is a soliloquy because it tells how he thinks about the situation and also tells about his emotions and feelings that the other characters doesn't know about, so it is kind of like thinking-out loud to yourself and the audience.

2. The insights that Hamlet gives us is that he doesn't like his uncle for taking his father place and his mother because she was " so quick to jump into a bed of incest" and even "a beast that wants discourse of reason would have mourned longer" than her. He thinks that his mother totally forgets his father because it has been only about 2 months that she remarried because I think that Hamlet thinks that it is disrespectful to married after 2 months of the death of her husband.
